4.5.7.1 Ballistics. The test sample shall be rigidly supported in the fixture and shall be tested within 5 minutes
after its removal from the conditioning chamber. When this time limit is exceeded the sample shall be
reconditioned in accordance with 4.5.7.1.1.
4.5.7.1.1 Temperature conditioning. A standard M113 Initiator loaded with dummy IIA pellets and a
dummy PVU-1/A Ignition Device and delay element containing a temperature sensitive element shall be placed
in the conditioning chamber at the same time as the samples. The conditioning time shall be a minimum of 1
hour longer than the time necessary to bring the element contained in the dummy cartridge to the required
temperature.
5. PACKAGING
5.1 Packaging. For acquisition purposes, the packaging requirements shall be as specified in the contract or
order (see 6.2). When packaging of materiel is to be performed by DoD or in-house contractor personnel,
these personnel need to contact the responsible packaging activity to ascertain packaging requirements.
Packaging requirements are maintained by the Inventory Control Point's packaging activities within the
Military Service or Defense Agency, or within the military service's system commands. Packaging data
retrieval is available from the managing Military Department's or Defense Agency's automated packaging
files, CD-ROM products, or by contacting the responsible packaging activity.
6. NOTES
(This section contains information of a general or explanatory nature that may be helpful but is not
mandatory.)
6.1 Intended use. The initiator assembly is used in conjunction with other propellant actuated devices in
Aircrew Emergency Escape Systems. The initiator was designed for use in military aircraft, and has no
commercial application.
6.2 Acquisition requirements. Acquisition documents must specify the following:
a. Title, number, and date of this specification.
b. Issue of DODISS to be cited in the solicitation and, if required, the specific issue of individual
documents referenced .
c. Production test activity and lot size (see 4.1 and 4.3.1).
d. Directions for shipping radiographs of entire production lot along with ballistic sample to the activity
conducting production lot acceptance tests (see 4.4.3.8.3).
e. Level of packing and marking (see 5.1, 6.5).
f. That the safety precaution requirements of the ``Contractor's Safety Manual for Ammunition,
Explosives, and Related Dangerous Material,'' DOD 4145.26M are applicable. NOTE: When this
specification is used as part of the description of work to be accomplished by a Government
