MIL-DTL-50714C (OS)
4.4.3.2 Protective finish. Unless otherwise specified, sampling plans and procedures in determination of
acceptability of coated parts and articles submitted by a supplier shall be in accordance with provisions set
forth in ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 and MIL-A-8625.
4.4.3.3 Residual magnetism. Each assembly shall be subjected to the test for excessive residual magnetism.
Failure of any assembly to comply with the requirements of 3.6 shall be cause for rejection of the assembly.
4.4.3.4 Breakaway torque. Each initiator shall be subjected to the breakaway torque application. Failure of
any initiator assembly to comply with the requirements of 3.5 shall be cause for rejection of the assembly.
4.4.3.5 Leak rate. Each initiator, less the firing mechanism and bracket, shall be subjected to a leak rate test.
Failure of any initiator to comply with the requirements of 3.8 shall be cause for rejection of the initiator. This
test shall be done by the contractor before final assembly.
4.4.3.6 Ignition device sensitivity. A sample of ignition devices in accordance with table II, when
assembled and crimped into the retainer, form the initial production sample. All lots produced after this initial
production sample shall be tested for sensitivity.
4.4.3.6.1 All fire. One half the ignition device sample size, crimped into the retainer, shall be tested at the
26.0 inch ounce energy level in accordance with 3.4.1. Any ignition device failing to comply with 3.4.1 shall
be cause for rejection.
4.4.3.6.2 No-fire. One half the ignition device sample size, crimped into the retainer, shall be tested at the 4.0
inch ounce energy level in accordance with 3.4.1. Any ignition device failing to comply with 3.4.1 shall be
cause for rejection.
4.4.3.7 Functional. The following tests shall be performed by the Government.
4.4.3.7.1 Ballistics. Twenty-one units shall be tested to determine compliance with the requirements of 3.7.1,
3.7.2, and 3.7.3. The units shall be temperature conditioned as provided in table III and 4.5.7.1.1. Failure of
any unit to comply with the requirements of 3.7.1, 3.7.2, and 3.7.3 shall be cause for rejection of the lot.

4.4.3.8 Radiographic examination. All ignition device assemblies, retainer and ignition device assemblies,
and initiator assemblies shall be radiographically examined for defects.
4.4.3.8.1 Ignition device, PVU-1/A, Drawing 851AS110. Prior to assembly into the cartridge, the ignition
device shall be radiographically examined in accordance with ASTM E 1742. Each ignition device shall be X-
