6.5 Definition.
6.5.1 Level A packaging. The degree of preservation and packaging which will afford adequate
protection against corrosion, deterioration, and physical damage during shipment, handling,
indeterminate storage, and world-wide redistribution.
6.5.2 Preservation and packaging. Level A packaging should be used for all production lots for
service use.
6.5.2.1 Inner container. One (1) initiator should be packed in a rigid hermetically sealed metal
container which meets the requirements of MIL-C-10464, Type 1. Protective plugs in accordance with
NAS 847 should be installed in the inlet and outlet ports on the initiator to afford protection. Adequate
dunnage should be placed in the can to provide a tight pack and the can hermetically sealed.
6.5.2.2 Outer container. Initiators packaged as described in 6.5.2.1 should be packaged in a nailed
wood box conforming to PPP-B-621, Class 2, Style 4 or 4 1/2 or in a cleated plywood box conforming to
PPP-B-601, Overseas Type, Style A or B. Adequate dunnage should be provided to assure a tight pack.
6.5.3 Marking.
6.5.3.1 Special marking. Marking of outer containers shouldl be in accordance with Code of Federal
Regulations 49 CFR 100-199.
6.5.3.2 Normal marking. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order (see 6.2), the
marking on the inner, intermediate, and outer containers should be as specified below. The specified
markings should be applied to the containers in accordance with the applicable provisions of
MIL-STD-129.
