6.3.7 Time to maximum thrust. Time to maximum thrust is the time from application of current to the
point of maximum thrust on the thrust vs time trace.
6.3.8 Velocity. Velocity is defined as velocity at end of stroke.
6.4 Packaging.
6.4.1 Preservation and packaging. For definitions of packaging levels, see 6.3.
6.4.1.1 Level A. Level A packaging shall be used for packaging of all production lots for service use.
Specific packaging shall be as specified by the procuring activity as follows ten cartridges packaged per
TPO 01-063-3165; eighty packaged per TPO 01-063-3164; sixty packaged per Drawing 5184852; or 480
packaged per Drawing 5184851.
6.4.1.2 Level B. Not applicable.
6.4.1.3 Level C. When directed by the procuring activity, those cartridges which are intended for
expenditure in first article sample testing and for production lot acceptance tests shall be packaged in
accordance with MIL-STD-2073-1D and with 49 CFR 171-178.
6.4.2 Packing. For definitions of packing levels, see 6.3.
6.4.2.1 Level A. Level A packing shall be used for packing of all production lots for service use (see
6.4.1.1).
6.4.2.2 Level B. Not applicable.
6.4.2.3 Level C. When directed by the first article procuring activity, cartridges intended for expenditure
in sample testing and packaged in accordance with 6.4.1.3 shall be packed to afford protection against
damage during direct shipment from the supply source to the first receiving activity for immediate use.
Shipping- containers shall be in accordance with 49 CFR 171 -178.
6.4.3 Markings.
6.4.3.1 Special markings. Marking of exterior containers shall be in accordance with 49 CFR 171-178.
6.4.3.2 Normal markings. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or order, the marking information
on unit packages and shipping containers shall be as specified on TPO's 01-063-3165 and 01-063-3164 or
Drawings 5184852 and 5184851. The specified marking information shall be applied to the containers in
accordance with the applicable provisions of MIL-STD-129.
6.5 First article. When first article inspection is required the item(s) should be a first article sample,
selected from the first five production items, or it may be a standard production item from the contractor's
current inventory as specified 4.3.2 and 4.3.3. The first articles should consist of five or more, unit(s). The
contracting officer should include specific instructions in acquisition documents regarding inspection,
approval of first article test results and disposition of first articles. Invitations for bids should provide, that
the Government reserves the right to waive the requirement for samples for first article inspection to those
bidders offering a product which has been previously acquired or tested by the Government, and that
bidders offering such products, who wish to rely on such production or test, must furnish evidence with
the bid that prior Government approval is currently appropriate for the pending contract.
