Intended use. The assembly will ultimately be loaded and used in conjunction with other

propellant actuated devices in aircrew emergency escape systems. The assembly was designed for use in
military aircraft and has no commercial application.
Acquisition requirements. Acquisition documents should specify the following:

Title, number, and date of the specification.
b.
If required, the specific issue of individual documents referenced (see 2.1.1 and 2.2).
c.
If first article is necessary (see 3.1 and 6.3)
d.
The responsible for inspection activity (see 4.1)
e.
Any special inspection conditions (see 4.3)
f.
Level of marking and packing (see 5.1 and 6.4)
First article. When a first article inspection is required, the terms should be a first article sample.
6.3
The first article should consist of 5 metal parts assemblies, 9 sets of unassembled parts, 1 set of
unassembled parts without plating or final protective finish. The contracting officer should include
specific instructions in acquisition documents regarding arrangements for examinations, approval of first
article test results and disposition of first article. Invitations for bids should provided that the
Government reserves the right to waive the requirement for samples for first article inspection to those
bidders offering a product which has been previously acquired or tested by the Government, and that
bidders offering such products, who wish to rely on such production or test, must furnish evidence with
the bid that prior Government approval is presently appropriate for the pending contract. Bidders should
not submit alternate bids unless specifically requested to do so in the solicitation.
Contract packaging, packing and marking. The following requirements should be specified in
6.4
the contract.
6.4.1 Packing and marking level. Packing and marking should be Level A or B, as specified by the
contracting activity.
6.4.1.1 Level A. Level A should be in accordance with Drawings 8830984 and 8830985 or SPI F00-138-
3770.
6.4.1.2 Level B. Level B should be in accordance with Drawings 8830984 and 9241155 or SPI F00-138-
3770.
6.4.1.3 Lot numbers. Lot numbers should be in accordance with MIL-STD-1168.
6.5
Definitions.
6.5.1 Mechanical failure. Mechanical failure is any deformation or breakage of a part, the occurrence
of which is other than a design function.
